Awesome art!! :D Clary was my least favourite character by far (I didn't finish the third book because I got so sick of her selfishness, weakness and whining, it's been on my TBR -- well, To Be *Finished* pile for two years now) but I'm still planning on continuing. My favourite character is Simon, and I want to see what happens to him... Hmmm... I think I'll pick it up now...

personally, i suck at drawing shoes. so when i draw some of my characters...i extend the pants so they look baggy, and i make the skirt longer.

Well doesn't SHE look like she's had an unpleasant run in with the vampires?
Have you done any of Jace?
Can't wait for the next book!

All your sketches awesome! I just finished reading City of Bones, and I fell in love with it. Nice to know there's some cool fanart for it!

This is really well done! I saw your other City of Bones character pieces and really liked them but Clary stood out the most for me for some reason.
Did the author commision you herself? You must be feeling quite honored! :XD:

"Honored" is not exactly the first word that came to mind. ^^; "Moved" would be better, since it's not type-specific. "Overwhelmed" would be another.

Cassie and I have been good friends for years now, I was just glad I was able to help when she asked. Just as glad as I am that the images have been so well-received. :XD: so, thank you.

Had you taken note of the upload date, you might have figured there was no text published yet to use as reference. [Meaning the book came out in Spring 2007, while the writer commissioned me in Summer 2006.]

In any case, we discussed each piece a lot while I was designing them and none of them were meant to be specific illustrations for any scenes. Just references for Cassie to use while she was writing. . .if that makes it any easier for you to digest.

Oh. Wheups. I see. Well, it's pretty dang close for what Clary wore at Magnus's "party."

I think its amazing that now, after the release, people are commenting how alike certain details are to the book, which is entirely a happy accident. The most specific detail she gave me was "draw Clary in a black and Isabelle in white, preferably dresses" . . .which is pretty nonspecific as far as commissions go. ^^;

You're right though, in the party scene as well as a few fighting scenes, when I finally got a chance to read them I wish I could have gone back and redone the art. [I did make sure to shake an angry fist in my commissioners general direction.] But if I redid art after every impulse to, I'd never get anything done!

As it is I still have Luke & Raphael to illustrate... woe.

Well, maybe you could make a new drawing of Clarry.
And Clary turned out fine, it's just I REALLY liked the description of her in the book after the night party. She sounded more confedent in herself. But a skirt that wouldn't go down any further than her... I can't remember. Was it down to her thigh? Or was it just long enough to cover her? All I remember is Simon exclaiming "What is that?" about her outfit.
Luke?! Ooh, make him part werewolf, like in the battle against Vally!

OoW: I wonder if someone will make a film out of it. Sure would be a good one.

Sure! Maybe you can pay me and then I will :XD:

Right, now my to-do list is longer than my arm, not to mention my outstanding commissions [of which Luke and Raphael are number 2 & 3] Not meant to be bitter or anything, just honest ^^;

It's okay. I don't comission for art, and never hope to. I always thought comissions were free...

^^; no love, that'd be gift-art. Commission, by definition, means a paid service.

Fan-art, however can be commissioned as well as can be gifted... that might be where you're confusion lays. But in this case Cassie paid in full for each of these. And as long as she's happy with them that's all the matters to me.

Maybe after bills, exams and all that like, when I can breathe free again I might make her some free fan-art, who knows? We can both dream. :XD:

that book was sooo awesome. I cant wait till the next one. The only thing I think I would have changed about your clary is that one she looks too old and two I think her hair should be longer. in terms of just the quality though It is amazing. props.

Dear Gods, child, it's been too long!

You've always been mad talented, m'dear, the kind of talent that evolves a million miles a minute. It's something I've always admired about you.

But now you've evolved into the 'envy' category -- with images so striking that I'm left to wonder how you do it. This is gorgeous. I am begging you to never leave me for so long again -- I've been deprived.

Oh, my dear, :cling: I wasn't in hiding. I was/am in rather strict confidence. It's a bit different, for one there's money involved :XD:

And with decent funds comes decent materials. To me, that makes ALL the difference in the world.

The main reason why I took on this gig was because I knew it would test the boundaries of my methods of medium and push me to really step up. I love not only the free-reign it's given me but the opportunity to really translate the images from my brain at a level I haven't been able to before. Envy is a scary word. It means I am unwilling to share and that is a wrong-wrong thing. :poke::heart:

er, yeah... I have a very bad tendency design clothes to covet, but never to own :(

It's a very exciting/utterly random thing getting it done. I feel like jumping around in a circle half the time, the other half like I'm screaming into a black hole ^^;

but thank you, like a lot. It's always very encouraging getting to talk these needlessly headachy artsy-fartsy things over with yous :hug:

You know, it's this picture that has convinced me to read the book - Clary is such a gorgeous creation. I really love her face and her eyes, and though her shoes look like they weigh a tonne, they look extremely kickarse.

I change my DV-ID months ago because I had to design her boots and I loved the sketch so much I wanted to look at it every day. Of course, I put words over so it's nearly indecipherable as an actual image but I'm protective over a lot of this. Clary especially.

I would really love for you to read this book. Honestly I would, not just because it’s a good book and I know you’ll enjoy it but because there is a lot of us friend in there, myself included, that I wanted to be shared and spread out there. Also, it's a general good read. :D I'm already itching for the sequel and I haven't even finished on the character design for the first ^^;

Lastly, my niece Crystal modeled this particular piece for me. She's like a daughter to me, so there is a lot of love in it and a shit load of bad-assery, as it is hereditary :XD:

Now that I know, I can definitely see it - cool ID (;

So ... when I see a drunken fairy with blue wings I'll know it's you? (; I'm glad to see mad enthusiasm for the book - it's generally more of a selling point for me than a standard book review (not that book aren't great, but excitement is better!).

Yes, I've noticed (;

We don't use the word "mad" here darling; we use "eccentric" it has a much nicer ring to it! :XD:

... and I say nothing about about who and what is based on whom so that denial will be a lot more plausible later on. ^^;

And yet the cross-over from "mad scientist" to "eccentric scientist" remains imcomplete! One day (;

Curious (; I suppose I shall eventually see if I can spot you (:
